These Strawberry Margaritas are made with just a handful of ingredients, and super refreshing on a hot summer day! This recipe is for a single cocktail (for when it’s just you), but I’ve also included a large batch version (for a party or other event).
This is one of my Drink recipes I know youโll want to keep on hand!
Weโre in full summer mode here in the Midwest. Schools are out, pools and water parks are open, and there are plenty of hot and humid days ahead.
I donโt know about you, but on those days, I absolutely crave an icy cold drink.
Lately, that drink has been a cool and refreshingly sweet strawberry margarita!
Made with fresh strawberries and whole ingredients (no bottled mix here folks!), these margaritas are easy to make, and even easier to sip.
This recipe is for a single cocktail, but I’ve also included a large batch version right below the recipe, for those amazing summer parties!
What do I need to make this recipe?
- Strawberries – I highly recommend fresh strawberries, but frozen one will also work (just thaw them first).
- Granulated sugar – I use the regular granulated sugar, but you can use superfine or caster sugar if you prefer.
- Lime juice – typically I use freshly squeezed lime juice, but bottled juice will also work for this recipe.
- Tequila – to keep the flavor of the strawberries coming through, I do recommend using a blanco or silver tequila.
- Triple sec – you can also use cointreau or grand marnier.
How to make strawberry margaritas?
This is just an overview; the full ingredients and directions are in the recipe card toward the bottom of this post.
- Rim glasses. This is optional, but makes for a fun drink.
- Combine strawberries, sugar, and lime juice.
- Blend. This is easiest to do with an immersion blender, but you don’t need to have one to make this recipe.
- Strain. Also optional, but it’s a great way to remove most of the strawberry seeds.
- Add liquors. Pour in the tequila and triple sec.
- Stir well.
- Add ice, then serve.
Helpful Tip!
This recipe calls for an immersion blender to blend the strawberries. However, please don’t feel like you can’t make this without one. I don’t like to create recipes that can ONLY be made using a special piece of equipment. So feel free to use a food processor or blender if you have one, or just muddle the strawberries really well with a muddler or wooden spoon.
Variations of this recipe
- Strawberries – this time of year, fresh strawberries are abundant and very sweet, which is why I call for fresh berries. However, this recipe will also work well with frozen strawberries. Just thaw them and pat them dry so your drink isn’t too watery.
- Tequila – the amount of tequila in your margarita is definitely a personal choice, so please feel free to add more or less tequila than called for. This is just how we like our cocktails.
- Lime juice – this is one of those times where fresh lime juice tastes best, but bottled will also work really well.
- Sweetener โ if youโd like a sweeter cocktail, feel free to add more sugar, simple syrup, or agave nectar. I do recommend making the recipe as written first, then give it a taste. If youโd like more sweetness, then add your sweetener of choice, and blend again.
- Rims โ we love a sugar rim, but if youโd prefer salt, feel free to use it. You can also skip rimming the glasses all together if youโd like. For a fun twist, try adding some lime zest to the sugar rim.
FAQ’s
Since this is a flavored cocktail, thereโs really no need to break the bank on some super top shelf tequila. Generally, a silver or blanco tequila is best in this recipe, such as a Patron, 1800, Don Julio, etc.
Absolutely! A โvirginโ or mocktail is popular among pregnant women and those who choose not to consume alcohol. I would replace the tequila and triple sec with 2.5 oz of water, or seltzer/sparkling water.
Making margaritas ahead of time
I don’t typically recommend making this cocktail ahead. However, you can definitely prep ahead:
- Strawberries – the berries can be washed and sliced ahead of time and kept refrigerated.
- Blend – the combination of strawberries, sugar, and lime juice can be blended together and kept refrigerated.
- Combine liquors – the tequila and triple sec can be combined in a jar and kept refrigerated.
Storage
Leftover margaritas should be refrigerated in an airtight container and consumed within a few days.
My Favorite Immersion Blender!
Immersion blenders are one of those tools that seem silly to have, especially if you already have a regular blender, but they really do come in handy, and can actually be relatively inexpensive!

Ingredients
Margaritas
- 4 oz fresh strawberries diced (about 4-5 large berries)
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- 3/4 oz lime juice about 1.5 Tbsp
- 2 oz silver tequila about 4 Tbsp or 1/4 cup
- 1/2 oz triple sec about 0.5 Tbsp
Garnishes
- additional granulated sugar for the rim
- lime wedges
- fresh strawberries
Instructions
Rim glass (optional but recommended)
- Add the additional sugar to a shallow plate or bowl.
- Make a small slit in the lime wedge and place it over the rim of a serving glass. Run the lime wedge around the rim, then dip the rim into the sugar.
Blend berries
- To another glass or jar, add diced strawberries, granulated sugar (2 tsp per glass), and lime juice.
- Use an immersion or hand blender, pulse until mixture is relatively smooth.
- ** If you don't have an immersion blender, you can use a small food processor, traditional blender, or muddle the mixture using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon. **
- If desired, you can strain the strawberry mixture through a mesh sieve to remove most of the strawberry seeds.
Make the margarita
- To the rimmed glass, add the strawberry mixture, pour in tequila and triple sec, add ice, and stir to combine.
Garnish and serve
- Serve cold, with a lime wedge and strawberry on the side of the glass.

Chef Tips
- This recipe makes 1 (roughly 5 oz) cocktail.
- Please feel free to adjust the amount of tequila if you prefer a stronger or weaker drink.
Large Batch Instructions:
- You can make a large batch with any multiple of the recipe, you just need to multiply all the ingredient amounts by the same number, and you’ll want to make sure you have a large enough pitcher to hold everything.
- In a large bowl or jar, add diced strawberries, granulated sugar, and lime juice.ย
- Use an immersion blender to blend until mostly smooth.
- Strain mixture in a mesh sieve placed over a large pitcher (to remove most of the seeds).
- To the pitcher, add tequila and triple sec.
- Stir to combine, then cover and chill for several hours or overnight.
- When ready to serve, stir really well, then pour the contents of the pitcher over ice into glasses and garnish as desired.
