Perfect for Halloween, or any other holiday, this poisoned apple cider cocktail is sweet and eerie with it’s mystical red and golden swirls!
Get into the Fall and spooky Halloween spirit with this poisoned apple cider cocktail… made easy with just a handful of ingredients!ย The optional luster dust gives the cocktail it’s mystical red and golden swirls, which make for one eerily beautiful drink!
I know, I know, Halloween is NOT that close.ย BUT, this drink is so perfect for any time of year!ย Granted, the mysterious swirls are just destined for a Halloween party, but I like to serve these from September to December!
Since I’m the ultimate homebody, we’re not big on adult Halloween parties… but if you’re the partying kind, this drink is PERFECT for a signature cocktail.ย It’s sweet, apple-y with a spiced kick from the rum, and the best part is the mesmerizing shimmery swirls!
Have you ever had the liqueur Viniq?ย The bottles are SO much fun to pick up and swirl around at the liquor store.ย However, I’ve never been a fan of the actual taste of Viniq, which is a shame!ย Thanks to my amazing friend Dini over at The Flavor Bender, she’s come up with several recipes for homemade Viniq, which are fabulous!!ย Her homemade version is where I got the idea to add the luster dust, which is what gives the drink those shimmery swirls.
DO I HAVE TO ADD THE DUST TO THIS APPLE CIDER COCKTAIL
If you’re worried about consuming the dust, it’s food grade and completely edible. You can also serve this cocktail without it, but I just love the eerie look it gives! I bought mine at my local cake decorating store, but I’ve also linked to a similar one on amazon in the recipe below. You can use any color you’d like… I chose gold here.
When it’s closer to time, you could have a pumpkin carving party and serve this apple cider cocktail, or have some friends over for some Fall baking and serve this drink.ย Or, maybe you guys need to celebrate the kids being back in school!ย The sky’s the limit!
Since we’re coming up on prime apple cider season, I hope you guys give this apple cider cocktail a try! I know you’ll love it!
GET THE LOOK:
- Gold luster dust – feel free to use other colors, but this is the gold one I used for the photos!

So tasty, mine isn’t that pretty color swirl, but so tasty. I fixed it 2 nights in a row ๐
Lisa says
What kind of apple cider should I be using? The sparkling kind, the spiced kind that only shows up seasonally, or like a big brand bottled one you can get from the juice aisle year-round?
The Chunky Chef says
I always use the one that’s available seasonally, as it has the best flavor.
Vicki says
Oh, my, that’s tasty. I used silver dust which gave a lovely swirl. I did use a rather opaque cider, which I think mutes the lovely red. I will try it with a more filtered cider next time. This is the perfect addition to our Halloween vampire RPG table.
Sheena says
Is there a substitute for pomegranate juice?
Not the Grenadine, but the actual juice.
Thank you.
The Chunky Chef says
I haven’t tested it, but you could try cranberry juice ๐
Michelle says
Can I use cran-pomegranate juice?
The Chunky Chef says
I think that would be delicious ๐
Michelle says
This was a hit tonight!!! Everyone loved it!
Joyce says
Can this be served hot
The Chunky Chef says
This was developed as a chilled cocktail, so I haven’t tested this recipe as a hot drink. I can’t say for certain whether any changes would need to be made, or how well it would work. If you do some experimenting, I’d love to know how it turns out ๐
Dona says
Do you have drink recipe book I could purchase for my home bar?
The Chunky Chef says
I don’t at this time, but it’s an option for the future ๐
Ariana says
Hi! Iโm making this tonight for a girls night. I was just wondering what kind of grenadine to use!
The Chunky Chef says
Just traditional grenadine, which is made with pomegranate.

You have excellent recipes. Whenever I am looking for something on Pinterest and I see your name come up, I always see what you have and. am never disappointed. I don’t need a spooky holiday drink, but I am sure. can tweet this into Christmas.๐
Sheri says
How cna you make this in a batch for serving?
The Chunky Chef says
Just multiply all the ingredients until you have enough to fill your serving container. But I would probably not add the luster dust to the container (since it would all just settle at the bottom). Instead, Iโd have it there for your guests to add to their drink if theyโd like, and have a cocktail stirrer there for them to swirl it into their glass/cup ๐
Sarah says
Would I be able to make this in a large batch and put it in a drink dispenser for a party?
The Chunky Chef says
Yes, but I would probably not add the luster dust to the dispenser (since it would all just settle at the bottom). Instead, I’d have it there for your guests to add to their drink if they’d like, and have a cocktail stirrer there for them to swirl it into their glass/cup ๐
