Perfect for Halloween, or any other holiday, this poisoned apple cider cocktail is sweet and eerie with it’s mystical red and golden swirls!
Get into the Fall and spooky Halloween spirit with this poisoned apple cider cocktail… made easy with just a handful of ingredients!ย The optional luster dust gives the cocktail it’s mystical red and golden swirls, which make for one eerily beautiful drink!
I know, I know, Halloween is NOT that close.ย BUT, this drink is so perfect for any time of year!ย Granted, the mysterious swirls are just destined for a Halloween party, but I like to serve these from September to December!
Since I’m the ultimate homebody, we’re not big on adult Halloween parties… but if you’re the partying kind, this drink is PERFECT for a signature cocktail.ย It’s sweet, apple-y with a spiced kick from the rum, and the best part is the mesmerizing shimmery swirls!
Have you ever had the liqueur Viniq?ย The bottles are SO much fun to pick up and swirl around at the liquor store.ย However, I’ve never been a fan of the actual taste of Viniq, which is a shame!ย Thanks to my amazing friend Dini over at The Flavor Bender, she’s come up with several recipes for homemade Viniq, which are fabulous!!ย Her homemade version is where I got the idea to add the luster dust, which is what gives the drink those shimmery swirls.
DO I HAVE TO ADD THE DUST TO THIS APPLE CIDER COCKTAIL
If you’re worried about consuming the dust, it’s food grade and completely edible. You can also serve this cocktail without it, but I just love the eerie look it gives! I bought mine at my local cake decorating store, but I’ve also linked to a similar one on amazon in the recipe below. You can use any color you’d like… I chose gold here.
When it’s closer to time, you could have a pumpkin carving party and serve this apple cider cocktail, or have some friends over for some Fall baking and serve this drink.ย Or, maybe you guys need to celebrate the kids being back in school!ย The sky’s the limit!
Since we’re coming up on prime apple cider season, I hope you guys give this apple cider cocktail a try! I know you’ll love it!

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy this drink. Hope you had a good holiday though.
Donzie May says
I used apple juice instead of cider. It kinda tastes like cherry cough syrup. Maybe because I didn’t use cider. I will add more rum! LoL
Brittany says
Can I ask what brand of luster dust you used? ย Thanks!
The Chunky Chef says
I use this brand https://amzn.to/2J6LCX5
But Wilton makes a pearl dust that’s very similar, and it can be found in most major craft stores in the baking supplies section.
Barb Holland says
This was delicious! ย What is your trick to get the pretty swirls? ย We had glitter, but not the spooky layers. ย When do you add the luster dust?
The Chunky Chef says
Glad you enjoyed it! I add my luster dust to the cocktail shaker so it’s well mixed in with the drink, then give our guests (and ourselves) cocktail stirrers so they can swirl the drink.
JMac says
If I Mix a large batch in a plastic pitcher for a Tailgate at a sporting event, but still put it in a shaker with ice and dust, will it still have the same look? (All be it through clear plastic cups) lolย
The Chunky Chef says
It should, although I haven’t tested it ๐
Laura says
Any idea what the measures should be if I wanted to make a large batch? (20 people). IM horrible at math but this sounds Awesome!!ย
The Chunky Chef says
You just multiply everything by 20 (I always use a calculator)… so 80 oz apple cider, 30 oz spiced rum, 30 oz pomegranate juice, and 15 oz grenadine. Add all ingredients to a big pitcher or punch bowl, stir well and refrigerate until cold. Add a pinch of luster dust (if using) to everyone’s individual drinks and serve with a cocktail stirrer so your guests can swirl the dust in their drinks ๐
Sonia says
It’s delicious! I didn’t have pomegranate juice on hand so I subbed with cran/mango. โญโญโญโญโญ
Monica says
What can we use instead of pomegranate juice?
The Chunky Chef says
I’ve never tried it without the pomegranate juice, so I can’t say for certain, but I would think any dark fruit juice would work alright.
Rachel says
Could I make this in a pitcher or punch bowl and refrigerate before serving, adding glitter last? For a larger party
The Chunky Chef says
Hi Rachel ๐ Yes, absolutely!
