This is one of my Holiday Dessert recipes I know you’ll want to keep on hand!
This Fall is whizzing by at the speed of light; we’re a couple of weeks away from December.
With the holidays approaching quickly, I’m all about easy recipes.
Ones that are so simple to make, yet taste incredible… like this eggnog dip!
This dip is no-bake, made with just 5 simple ingredients, including real eggnog.
So it doesn’t taste almost like it, it tastes exactly like it… just in a fun, dip-able form.
Bring on the dippers and let’s get this holiday party started!
What do I need to make this recipe?
- Pudding mix – this recipe was developed and tested using instant pudding mix.
- Eggnog – you can use any store-bought eggnog, or homemade if you’d prefer.
- Cinnamon – the amount of cinnamon in this recipe is small, since the eggnog already has spices in it.
- Nutmeg – the amount of nutmeg in this recipe is very small, since the eggnog already has spices in it.
- Whipped topping – this is cool whip, which is sold frozen, but make sure it’s thawed for this recipe.
How to make eggnog dip?
This is just an overview; the full ingredients and directions are in the recipe card toward the bottom of this post.
- Mix. Whisk/beat together the pudding, eggnog, and spices.
- Fold. Gently fold in the whipped topping, using a rubber spatula. The mixer isn’t recommended here, as it deflates the topping.
- Smooth. Make sure the whipped topping is folded all the way in, so the mixture is smooth.
- Serve. Transfer to a serving bowl, sprinkle with cinnamon/nutmeg, and and serve with dippers.
Helpful Tip!
As written, there isn’t any rum in this dip recipe, so it’s safe for kiddos and people who can’t consume alcohol. You could add some rum extract if you want the extra flavor though.
Variations of this recipe
- Rum – is this dip for adults who can consume alcohol? Try adding a splash of rum for a more authentic eggnog flavor.
- Rum extract – if you want rum flavor, but not the alcohol, you can try adding a bit of rum extract. Start with just a few drops though, and give it a taste, since rum extract is pretty strong.
- Eggnog – if you’d like to use homemade eggnog, you certainly can. You may want to taste the dip and adjust the sweetness and spices as needed, since homemade eggnog can vary in flavor.
- Lower-sugar – to reduce the amount of sugar in this dip, use a sugar-free pudding, and a sugar-free cool whip. If you can find a reduced sugar eggnog, you could try using that as well.
- Dippers – we love to use shortbread cookies, nilla wafers, biscotti, and gingerbread cookies. But feel free to use your favorites.
- Cool whip – if you’d prefer not to use cool whip, I think you could use an equal amount of whipped cream instead. However, this isn’t tested, so keep that in mind.
- Chilled – even though this dip doesn’t call for chilling, if you’d like to chill it, you certainly can. Just cover the bowl and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.
FAQ’s
Since the dip has eggnog in it (dairy), it shouldn’t be out at room temperature for longer than 2 hours. To prolong that though, you can fill a larger bowl with ice, then nestle a bowl of this dip down into the ice (just not down too far, you don’t want melted ice getting into the dip). This will keep it chilled.
Absolutely! Some of our favorite options are french vanilla, cheesecake, and white chocolate.
Making no-bake dips ahead of time
This time of year, time is at a premium, so I love that this dip can easily be made completely ahead of time (minus the cinnamon on top).
Just keep it covered and refrigerated, and when you’re ready to serve, give it a good stir, and top with the cinnamon.
Freezing
I don’t recommend freezing this recipe, as the dairy in the dip can have an odd texture from the freezing and thawing process.
Storage
This dip should be refrigerated in an airtight container and enjoyed within 3-4 days.
My Favorite Hand Mixer!
Stand mixers are great, but they’re also pretty expensive and sometimes hard to come by. This hand mixer works like a champ and works really well for this dip!

Chef Tips
- This recipe makes approximately 2 cups of dip, which I’ve estimated will serve 8 (with each person getting about 1/4 cup of dip). But of course you’re free to divide the dip up into as many servings as you’d like.
- If you’d like to make substitutions or additions to the ingredients, please see the “variations of this recipe” section in the post above this recipe card for all the details.
- Storage and make ahead instructions are also included in the post above.
