Deep-fried snickers are a classic American fair food, and they’re easy to make at home. Just grab 5 simple ingredients, and you’ll be on your way to a deliciously gooey treat!
This is one of my Dessert recipes I know youโll want to keep on hand!
We’re not officially in the thick of summer yet, but I’m still getting excited about summer activities. For many of us, that includes going to the fair!
Wether it’s the state or county fair, you’re sure to find plenty of fun things to do, and of course, plenty of amazing food.
There are so many delicious types of food at fairs and carnivals, but a favorite is always the fried candy bars.
Today we’ve gone with one of my favorite candy bars, Snickers.
The batter is made simply, using a baking mix and just 4 other ingredients (one of which is the candy bars). Then it’s just a quick fry!
Don’t let frying intimidate you; you don’t need any special tools or a deep fryer. I’ve also shared my top tips for frying down towards the recipe card.
How to make deep-fried snickers?
This is just an overview; the full ingredients and directions are in the recipe card toward the bottom of this post.
- Make the batter. You want the batter to be thick enough not to run off the candy bar, but not so thick that it globs up. You’re looking for a pancake batter consistency.
- Coat the bars. Just a quick dip into the batter.
- Shake off excess. Gently shake a little so any excess batter falls away.
- Fry. Add to hot oil. I find using a bamboo skewer for the batter and frying processes makes it a bit easier.
Helpful Tip!
For this recipe, as well as any fried recipe, it’s best to use an oil with a high smoke point. Examples would be avocado, vegetable, canola, sunflower, and peanut. If you use an oil with a lower smoke point (such as olive oil), the oil can burn, causing an unpleasant taste and smell.
Variations of this recipe
- Baking mix – feel free to use any pancake/waffle baking mix that you’d like. We typically use Bisquick or Krusteaz.
- Candy bars – this method of deep frying snickers will work for just about any candy bar as well, so feel free to try your favorite!
- Snickers size – as written, this recipe uses mini snickers bars. But you can use bite sized, or full sized bars as well. The frying time might be slightly changed though.
- Powdered sugar – after frying, once they’ve cooled a little, try dusting the tops with powdered sugar.
- Toppings – or, you could try a drizzle of melted chocolate and/or caramel for a fun topping idea!
FAQ’s
I haven’t tested this recipe in the oven or air fryer, so I’m not sure if it could be done, or if there would need to be any changes made. If you do some experimenting, I’d love to know how it turns out!
Not at all, I just think it makes it a bit easier to handle the battered bars. You can use a slotted spoon, frying spider, etc.
Making fried snickers ahead of time
These fried candy bars are definitely best when made fresh. Fried food just tastes best when it’s crisp, hot, and gooey.
Because of the leavening agents in the baking mix, I don’t advise making the batter ahead of time either.
But the good news is, this recipe comes together really quickly, so you won’t mind.
Storage
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, you could try crisping them in a 350 oven until hot, but they’ll likely not have the same texture as when made fresh.
My Favorite Pan to Fry In!
I love using this enameled cast iron pan to fry in. Itโs heavy bottomed, holds heat evenly, is shallow enough to be able to work in, yet deep enough so you donโt get splatters of oil all over your stove! If youโd like to take the guesswork out of getting your oil to the right temperature, try using this inexpensive frying thermometer.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Bisquick baking mix
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 12 mini Snickers candy bars unwrapped
- more vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
Prepare
- Add enough oil to dutch oven (or other large heavy-bottomed pot) to be about 4-6 inches deep, and heat over MED heat to 375ยฐF.ย I highly recommend a thermometer to make sure the oil is the right temperature. This is the one I use (amazon affiliate link).
- Line a baking sheet with a paper towel, then top with a wire cooling rack.ย Set aside, near the stove.
- Set a mixing bowl near the stove, and get out some bamboo skewers (or a frying spider/slotted spoon).
Make the batter
- To the mixing bowl, add baking mix, milk, 2 Tbsp vegetable oil, and egg. Whisk until combined, and no flour streaks remain. Some small lumps in the batter are okay.
Batter candy bars
- Gently insert a bamboo skewer into each of the candy bars, then coat the snickers in the batter (I find it's best to do this in batches of 6).
- Gently shake off the excess batter.
Fry
- When oil is hot and has come to 375ยฐF, gently add several battered Snickers bars, being careful not to add too many as this will overcrowd the pan or else the oil temperature will drop too much, and they'll absorb too much oil.
- Feel free to use a utensil to keep the candy bars under the oil if they bob to the surface.
- Fry until the batter has turned a deep golden brown color. Remove to prepared wire cooling rack topped baking sheet, and repeat with any remaining snickers, working in batches.
Cool and serve
- Let fried snickers rest on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes, then serve warm and enjoy!

- Can be made using bite-sized or full-sized Snickers, or other candy bars.
- Exact amount of oil will vary from person to person, as the amount will change depending on the size of the pot used.
